A true love story
At a zoo in California, a tigress gave birth to her cubs, but due to the complications of pregnancy in captivity, the cubs were born prematurely and died shortly after.
After recovering from the birth, the tigress’s health began to decrease, although she was physically very well. The vets thought that the loss of her cubs had caused her to fall in depression. They decided that if they substituted the cubs for some other tiger’s cubs, maybe she would get better. After checking with many zoos all over the country, they found out there were no cubs the same or similar age for the mourning mother.
The vets then decided to try something that had never before been attempted at a zoo: sometimes a mammal mother ‘adopted’ cubs of another species. The only orphans they could find quickly were some piglets; since they had no more time they chose the pigs for the experiment. The vets then proceeded to wrap the pigs in ‘tiger skin’ and placed them around the tigress.
